Artist In Their Element | Clairvoyance #3

Diana Oh’s third installation is coming April 20th 1-4pm at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston!! I’ve been playing with Diana all year as what they’ve named a Love Nurse (aka Production Assistant), and I’m so excited to be involved in a way that’s a bit different for this one 😉

“As Artist-In-Community Resident at A.R.T., Oh and a group of Queer and Trans Identified Powerhouse Influencers of Color, at the invitation of the artist, will strike a pose for portrait painting that celebrates queer magic and QPTOC love. They’ll each showcase their own personal fashion aesthetic in a staged tableau at the ICA. A commissioned artist will paint their portrait, and you are invited to observe, muse, sketch, or take in the beauty and applaud! Drawing materials provided; participants also welcome to bring personal sketchbooks and pencils.

The Artist in Their Element is created and staged by Diana Oh in collaboration with artists of the Boston community. The event is the third installment in the artist’s Clairvoyance series.”

As a young person about to enter the “adult,” “real” world, it’s pretty much impossible to be present for everything in your life. What happens if you’re able to stop time for a little bit? Are the people in your life exactly who you think they are, and are your relationships with them what you think they are? Maybe they are something else. See what can happen through a series of short stories during one rainstorm in Boston.

Through this musical that we created, wrote, and will eventually perform, we hope to tell these stories honestly and to empower our audiences to create something all on their own. We welcome you to our community.

Celebrate the culmination of eight months of committed, healthy, and sustainable creative process that contains our deepest values and honors our authentic selves.

1984

I will be taking on the role of “Syme” in 1984 at BU School of Theatre, directed by Clay Hopper! Performances run February 28 – March 3 in the Jewels 2 Miller Studio Theatre.

“The nature of truth and objective fact have recently been called into profound question by leaders in this country. Concurrently with this development is a growing global acceptance of authoritarian tendencies in liberal democracies and the adoption of a ubiquitous communication technology that collects, preserves, and uses data on each one of us. This can best be described as creating an “opt-in” surveillance state. All of this makes Orwell’s prophetic and dystopic 1984 particularly timely, and a necessary tool to critique the forces at work right now in our society.

This production is also an experiment: a novel collaboration between School of Theatre, School of Visual Arts, and BU’s Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. We are attempting to utilize projection mapping and computational vision technology to create a projectionscape that interacts with actors in real time.

1984 seemed a logical fit for such an experiment. The hope is that we can begin to use projection technology in ways that further the theatrical art form, not just add to it, and hopefully create a digital tool for projections to be used in future productions.”
